In mid-2008, The Pirate Bay was censored in Italy after the country’s ISPs were ordered to block their subscribers from accessing the site.

The Pirate Bay effectively won their case on appeal after the Court of Bergamo ruled that no foreign website could be censored for alleged copyright infringement. The blockade was lifted, albeit temporarily.

In February 2010, however, the Supreme Court decided that ISPs could be forced to block BitTorrent sites, even those located outside the country and run by foreigners. So that was that, The Pirate Bay became officially unavailable in Italy after all ISPs blocked the site.

In a response to the first block in 2008, Peter Sunde said that a site had been set up called Labaia.org, through which Italians could continue to access The Pirate Bay. That site became non-operational a while back.

More recently another site appeared – Labaia.net (La Baia means ‘The Bay’ in Italian) – which offered the same function. That site has now been shut down by the Guardia di Finanza (GdF), an Italian police force with responsibility for dealing with cybercrime.

Although Labaia.org seemed connected to The Pirate Bay, Labaia.net appeared to be independent. TorrentFreak asked Giovanni Battista Gallus, one of The Pirate Bay’s Italian lawyers, if Labaia.net was mentioned in the blocking lawsuit.

“No it is not mentioned,” he told us. “But the original seizure regarded ‘all future domain names’ connected or linked with the original TPB IP address.”

However, what is unusual is that if anyone tries to access www.thepiratebay.org from an Italian ISP, all they get is a timeout, but anyone trying to access the Italian-hosted Labaia.net gets the message below. It seems that sites outside Italy are blocked, while those inside the country can be seized.

FIMI, the Italian Music Industry Federation, was quick to praise the closure and said the prosecutor and GdF seized the site to prevent the illicit spreading of copyright works.

In the meantime Italians continue to find ways around the blockade, either by using other torrent sites, such as BTjunkie, or unblocking portals such as PirateBayItalia.

This site offers a handful of techniques to access torrents, including a custom Google torrent search and access to The Pirate Bay via Google translate. Better put on a big pot of coffee, this cat and mouse game could go on indefinitely.

Update: TorrentFreak tracked down the operator of Labaia who told us that the police took all his hardware and took copies of the entire site and logs.

He also informed us that if he’d have been asked he would’ve closed the site, but unfortunately no warning was given whatsoever. He had no idea running a proxy would constitute a crime in Europe.

In an interesting move which could severely hurt Rapidshare and benefit rival services like Hotfile and Megaupload the leading file-hoster is now pro-actively terminating accounts of illegal downloaders and uploaders engaging in copyright infringement activity. It is no secret that the only reason for Rapidshare's success is the vast amount of illegally distributed copyrighted software's, music and movies hosted on their servers and this move is definitely going to have it's consequences.

This extreme step could be due to two reasons first being the legal problems faced by the company and second that they are soon going to have their own legal movie sharing service - Rapid Movies, whatever the reason maybe this is surely going to have an major impact on website's user-base.

NOTE: The uninstaller may remove the above folders automatically. If you are unable to find the folders after selecting Show hidden files and folders, the removal is complete.

Method 2: Uninstall NOD32 by NOD32 removal tool

2. Install the Nod32 removal tool

3. After finishing uninstallation, Restart your computer.

Method 3: Remove NOD32 manually

This method is the most complex amongst all the methods. Apply this method, when all of the above methods fail:

* Restart your computer and start Windows with Safe Mode. Press the F8 key while rebooting and choose Safe mode from the list.

* Click on Start menu and then click on Run.

* Type regedit and hit Enter key of your keyboard.

* From the registry editor find the following keys and delete them:

[a] HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ESET

[b] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ESET

[c] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\egui

* Click Start → Control Panel → Folder Options → View, Select Show hidden files and folders.

* Go to C:\WINDOWS\inf folder and delete INFCACHE.1 file from that folder.

* Now. Restart your computer and after reinstallation, delete the following three folders.

C:\Program Files\ESET

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\ESET

C:\Documents and Settings\%USER%\Application Data\ESET

By following the above steps, you can easily remove ESET NOD32 antivirus totally from your computer.

, iMac and now iPad – iApple has managed to set a trend in naming their devices. No wonder the letter ‘i’ has become synonymous with Apple, but now, Apple has been dealt a severe blow having been told that it no longer has a monopoly on the letter “i” as part of the name for its products.

An Australian trademarks tribunal has rejected Apple’s bid to stop a small company, manufacturing laptop bags and cases for Apple products, called DOPi from trademarking its name since Apple believed DOPi is way too similar to iPOD, Apple’s popular portable music player.

Apple has always been known for its over-zealous legal team plunging on any individual or company it sees as infringing on its copyright and trademarks (who turn blind eye when Apple itself crosses the line with trademarked names like iPhone and iPad).

Apple argued that punters might be confused into thinking that they were buying an Apple product because of the letter ‘i’ in DOPi, but the tribunal said, Apple overlooked the fact that there were already a large number of products that have the “i” prefix, for example iSkin and iSoft to name just two, all of which are operating in the same class of electronic goods as Apple.

Of-course this doesn’t mean end of all legal battles pertaining to Apple trademarks, but is surely a huge dent to Apple’s legal team’s reputation.

I came across an old mail containing some interesting details on how some of the famous companies got their names. I cannot vouch for the authenticity of these details, but they do look very much believable.

Rumors of upcoming Microsoft Windows 7 Service Pack 1 are now officially confirmed as the company posted details of Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, surprisingly Windows 7 SP1 will only include minor updates apart from an updated Remote Desktop client which now takes advantage of RemoteFX technology.

Microsoft however did not provided any release or beta timeline for SP1 and only said :

With the Nintendo 3DS announcement generating a lot of buzz today in the interwebs, a lot of people were expecting Sony to fireback with the announcement of their own. Well they didn't, but they have a lot to say with the Big N's surprise revelation. Speaking with IGN, SCEA's Director of Hardware and Marketing John Koller has said that fans should not expect a 3D PSP anytime soon:

Our focus on 3D right now is on the console. There's a tremendous amount of opportunity on PlayStation 3 with 3D. The amount of interest in 3D from the retail side and game publishers is off the charts. We know we have a hit with 3D on PS3 and we're going to concentrate our efforts there.

I think it remains to be seen where Nintendo goes with 3D on a portable. Having been in the portable space for quite awhile, I think it's an interesting move but one I'd like to see where they go from a demographic standpoint. 8 and 9 year olds playing 3D is a little bit of a stretch given where some of our research is right now.
